The trailer for Brian De Palma's
Passionknows what it's doing. Sexual tension and multiple near-kisses from two sexy Hollywood women combined with ominous music and creepy porcelain masks — who's not going to be intrigued by a movie like that?
Passion is De Palma's English-language remake of the 2010 French thriller Love Crime in which a high-powered executive manipulates her seemingly unassuming assistant through subtle psychological torture, all while tossing in sexually charged innuendos, come-ons, and what looks like strange fetish parties. Imagine Eyes WIde Shut meets The Devil Wears Prada with a dash of Black Swan. (Again, who wouldn't be interested in something like that?)
Rachel McAdams plays the cunning, wealthy, conniving sociopath — think: an adult version of Regina George — and Noomi Rapace stars as her demure assistant whose brilliant business ideas are constantly being stolen by McAdams and passed off as her own. But there's only so much Rapace's character can take, and things get dark quickly.
